Our Purpose

The Edwards and Janet Smith Legacy Foundation was born out of a shared vision to foster lasting change in our community. What began as a humble initiative to support local education has grown into a comprehensive foundation dedicated to empowering the next generation.

The stewardship of the Vedic tradition, as brought to light by Maharishi’s teaching and organized by the Maharishi Foundation, requires support through sound fiscal management.

This foundation’s sole focus is to grow a capital fund that will generate revenue to support the teaching of Transcendental Meditation and its programs here in Vermont.

Once our initial goal of $108,000 is met, we will begin allocating earnings and ongoing contributions to address the following priorities:

Underwriting the operating expenses of the Vermont Transcendental Meditation Center.
Providing funding for special projects such as marketing campaigns, retreats, and financial support for community programs.
Continued growth of the capital fund to increase the capacity for sustainability through investment management.
Establishing a long-term physical facility for the Vermont Transcendental Meditation Center.

A key element of the Transcendental Meditation organizations unique success in Vermont has been the consistency of outreach, teaching, and ongoing support for participants.

That steadfast implementation since 2011 was provided directly by Edwards and Janet Smith. This fund will extend and grow the caliber of the impact they have created over the next decades.
